About Quinte Location belleville Market Community Relations Quinte Hisrtory

The Quinte Exhibition and Raceway has brought community fairs and events to Belleville and surrounding area since 1821. The raceway is one of Canada's oldest tracks, with deep roots in its community.

In the 1800s and early 1900s, harness racing was connected to the annual Quinte fair. In 1953, the Quinte Riding and Driving Club was created, and races began taking place every Friday night. Week in and week out, local harness racing fans showed up at the racetrack to cheer on their favourites down to the finish wire.

The track wasn't ideal - it was so narrow that drivers had to line up in two rows, one behind the other, to start the race - and the lighting was poor, but none of this dimmed the excitement. Finally, in 1965, renovations were undertaken to widen the racing oval and install brighter lights.

The track has undergone many changes over the years, but the support it enjoys from the local racing community continues to be among the strongest in the industry.  Now, with the approximately $20 Million reconstructed Quinte Exhibition and Raceway, Belleville's rich history of harness racing turns the page to a new and exciting chapter.
