Baymount Corporation Announces Bid for Quebec Race

TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2005 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
Academy Capital Corp. ("Academy") (TSX Venture: ACY) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary Baymount Corporation ("Baymount") is one of five companies to respond to a Request for Proposal ("RFP") issued by the Quebec Government for the privatization of the Provinces four racetracks. Baymount submitted its bid through Renaissance Hippique du Québec, Inc. ("RHQ"), a subsidiary incorporated in the Province of Québec.

The RFP calls for proposals to acquire the four racetracks and also commit to a substantial development plan that includes the relocation of Hippodrome de Montréal. The successful bidder will also enter into a fifteen year agreement with Loto-Québec for the establishment of gaming halls that will host Electronic Gaming Machines ("EGM's") at three of the racetracks.

Graham Simmonds, President of Baymount, stated, "This is an extremely exciting opportunity for Baymount as we continue to pursue the acquisition of racetracks with gaming facilities." He added, "The privatization of the Hippodromes in Quebec and the addition of EGM's will dramatically revitalize the industry at all levels, and Baymount is keenly interested in taking a leadership role in the future of Québec horseracing. As part of our Proposal, we have been able to assemble a senior team of highly-regarded Quebec based industry, legal and business leaders that we feel make an important addition to our strong management team in Ontario."

In addition to this new opportunity, Baymount is pleased to announce that the company is making significant progress on the development of the new Quinte Exhibition and Raceway. The company has now formally submitted its site plans and drawings to the City of Belleville and has also begun clearing the development lands to prepare the site for construction.

About Baymount and Academy

Baymount, a wholly owned subsidiary of Academy, has made strategic investments within the horseracing industry. Baymount has an agreement with the Belleville Agricultural Society to build a facility to relocate the Quinte Exhibition and Raceway in Belleville, Ontario.

Baymount is also pursuing a standardbred racing license for the development of a new racetrack and gaming facility in Brandon, Manitoba. The company recently amended its agreement to purchase 530 acres of land located in the R.M. of Elton. The amendment calls for an extension of the purchasers' waiver of conditions to February 15th, 2005, with closing now occurring no later than March 15th, 2005.

Baymount has the exclusive license to market Instant Racing throughout Canada. Instant Racing is a patented electronic horseracing and pari-mutuel wagering system that emulates the very successful slot machine experience. The product has been successful in generating significant pari-mutuel revenue to racetracks in the United States.

Baymount owns the FasTrack information product, a proprietary horseracing information product with an easy-to-use design that can be used to introduce new fans to the sport of horseracing. FasTrack is now deployed in a pilot test at Grand River Raceway in Elora, Ontario.
